Protect and Survive

Protect and Survive

By: Sandra Prior

Back in 1986, a graduate programmer in Lahore, Pakistan wrote a program that copied itself from one floppy disk to another. His name was Amjad Alvi and together with his brother, Basit, he entered computer folklore as the author of Brain, the first computer virus.

Brain is now extinct because it can only infect low density 5.25 inch floppies, which became obsolete long ago, but its descendants now amount to over 200,000 strains and the need for new ways to combat them has spawned an industry worth millions.

Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning

Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning

By: Sandra Prior

There are a few ways to get my attention and I suppose one is to use a phrases like ‘Penises shaped like asparagus.' Josh Drescher, Mythic's associate producer on the recently delayed Warhammer Online: Age Of Reckoning, certainly knows how to start a conversation. He's actually describing some background details of Chaos' capital, The Inevitable City. It has a name,' he goes on. ‘But if we said it your eyes would fall out and your, head would explode.'

In explaining WAR, it's far better to concentrate on what makes it different from 'some other games' (as the developers like to refer to the obvious competition). Because at first glance, WAR looks a lot like World of Warcraft. Familiarity could be its main hook or its ultimate failing. And it would be a shame either way, as WAR brings a remarkable amount of fresh, original ideas to a genre that's already calcifying.

Let's begin with those capital cities. If you played Mythic's previous MMO, Dark Age of Camelot, you'll recognize the concept: the 'end game' for those who have reached the initial maximum level, 40, will be an enormous push to invade and destroy the enemy's capital.

By: Charlotte Mooney

'Contactless Cards' has been a buzz-word in the card industry for the last couple of years, but how many people own one, and is anybody actually using them?
Here in the UK they have been hyped by TV advertising, recently featuring in a high-profile commercial featuring a happy consumer effortlessly zooming down a water-chute, apparently having the time of his life, and empowered by his Contactless 'OnePulse' card which he merely flashes at retailers' reader machines to continue unfalteringly on his merry way.
'OnePulse' is Barclaycard's first contactless product, designed to revolutionise the way consumers pay for low-cost items. Contactless technology allows shoppers to make a small purchase without the need for any signature or PIN number. The card is simply held up to a special contactless reader which automatically registers the payment. The money is then either deducted from the customer's bank account or charged to

He said: "They are trying to survive by reducing overheads by as much as they can without cutting into muscle."

Meanwhile, ink toner cartridges specialist Dustin Horner, who co-owns a

I think all the techies have gone crazy over the word cloud hosting services and made a mess of the word for a lay man. If you are not all that concerned about how clouds are formed then there is little you can benefit from going into the technical details of  the word cloud, same way as you know very little about  the term web. Mac recovery software to recover your inaccessible data from any Mac device including iDisk

By: allen

Over the years, Apple has made things easier for its users with a number of new and innovative utilities. iDisk is one of the wonderful invention by Apple for Mac users. Apple has provided iDisk, a standard subscription based file hosting service for all its Macintosh users, who use MobileMe. Furthermore, MobileMe is also a subscription based utility to provide Internet service to iOS, Mac OS X and Windows. With iDisk, you can easily store and remotely access digital pictures, songs, videos, movies, personal files etc. Moreover, you can integrate iDisk to the Mac OS X (from 10.3.9 to 10.6), which appears as a network drive on the desktop. However, sometimes, while accessing iDisk through Mac OS 10.4, iDisk gives error messages and thus, could not be mounted. This situation leads to the loss or inaccessibility of your valuable data and you need to opt for any Mac recovery utility to recover them back.
